About the Author
Nancy Skolos and Thomas Wedell are the principals of Skolos-Wedell, an interdisciplinary graphic design and photography studio.

Husband and wife, photographer and designer, the two work to diminish the boundaries between graphic design and photography - creating collaged three-dimensional images influenced by modern painting, technology, and architecture. With a home and studio halfway between Boston and Providence, they balance their commitments to professional practice and teaching at the Rhode Island School of Design, where Skolos is Head of the Department of Graphic Design.

The studio's work has received numerous awards and has been widely published and exhibited. Skolos-Wedell's posters are included in the graphic design collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Library of Congress, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Israel Museum, and the Museum fur Gestaltung, Zurich, Switzerland. Skolos is an elected member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale

If you're tired of the simple grid designs done by 98% of the industry, this book is for you. The phrase "Less is more" certainly goes out the window with these designs yet they're beautifully constructed and fun to explore. The book consists of only poster and print design. A go to resource for anyone looking for experimental design inspiration.

I have contacted the publisher several times since this title has gone out of print in the hopes of having them consider a reprint. I use it in an advanced Typography Studio as well as introduce the layout exercises in graduate courses exploring alternative approaches to combining type and image to create message. I know of no better book for advancing a student's understanding of using space to activate message and no better book in offering solutions addressing the most challenging aspect of combining type and image, the integration of two dimensional form in three dimensional space.

The four layout principles that Nancy Skolos and Thomas Wedell offer encourage exploration beyond the most often utilized grid approaches to the integration of type and image. Not only is this a wonderful textbook offering, it is of use to professionals as well, not only for its inspiration but its explanations of the layout principles applied, which offer rationale for critique and presentation. I do hope Rockport will consider another edition.

Excellent Book. Why is it out of print?!

This is one of the best design books I have seen. Great examples and information. When one of my design professors was showing it to us, and then told us it was out of print I was shocked. I had to go on amazon and buy it asap! Good thing I have too. This book is not cheap now.

Love Beauty and the Beast style romance with a cowboy.

I've been promising myself a Janet Dailey read since she passed away not long ago so when I found one I hadn't read, I was ready to go.

This is the story about a hero who is plug ugly. The sort of ugly that makes nice girls recoil. I kind of visualise Jack Palance with the prominent cheekbones and after his nose was broken so it was flattened. The sort of looks that means playing the bad guy in a movie rather than the hero.

Layne is an attractive, confident woman who normally wouldn't look twice at a man like Creed Dawson, but when she finds her long lost birth mother, she is thrown into his company working on the ranch he co-owns with her mother.

Somehow things change and she starts to see beyond his looks to the vulnerable and lonely man inside. As their relationship deepens it is complicated by the fact that she is asking him to keep a secret from his partner. Layne is afraid if she reveals who she is to her mother, she'll be kicked out and she doesn't want to go, especially as it means leaving Creed.

Creed at first glance seems to be just a big bear of a man, gruff and silent. We learn that he hasn't a great deal of experience with women and probably they aren't the wine and dine sort but the crisp cash on the bedside table kind. But we start to see how his feelings of self worth make it hard to him to believe Layne really cares, especially as she needs to keep him sweet so he wont reveal her secret.

With all that going on it is no wonder things go belly up. The ending was lovely and quite moving.

Accidental Read/Pleasant Surprise

It is almost an accident that I even read this book. I read in the newspaper that the author had recently died. When I discovered that she was a romance novel writer, I was curious. I am a man who is a fan of Sandra Brown. So I selected one of her novels at random. While I would not put her on a par with Sandra Brown, l enjoyed the book very much. I will definitely read many more of her books. I say try it. You will enjoy the fresh perspective offered by the setting in Nebraska and an intriguing plot that takes place on a cattle ranch. Her style is very easy to read and the plot flowers a good pace.

Janet Dailey"s "beauty and the beast" story was refreshing to the usual he was the best looking guy in the room story we generally get . All of the main characters seem to be real and believable and I enjoyed getting to know them. If you are looking to read a good romance, read this story

A collection of unknown pieces at best

This is not a book of known Latin American dances and it should be very difficult to play them if you are not familiar with them beforehand. I would not risk buying this collection. .It should have come with a CD.

Only if you're interested in the making of the covers

[[VIDEOID:moG03PTW8C4WLA]]This book is presented in hardcover, roughly the same size as the comics. Inside, it collects cover art of the single issue volume 1-50, trade paperback volumes 1-8, Books 1-4 and Deluxe Hardcovers 1-2. There are also sketches and unused designs.

If you are a collector of the comics, you already have majority of the art. The reason to buy this book is probably the commentary if you're interested in how they come up with the covers. Creator Robert Kirkman, artists Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard look back in hindsight at what they like and the ones that didn't work out well.

The art is beautiful but there are a few misses as well - all that are mentioned in the commentary provided.

This book is more for the ultimate collectors. Casual fans probably can do without it. Besides, most of the cover art can be found easily online.

Covers of comics, not the actual comic.

I bought this book because I didn't have the covers of the comics. I had purchased the Compendium's 1 and 2 of the walking dead comics, however there aren't any covers in the book. The quality of the paper is a very good glossy paper, with fully colored and very detailed comic covers from the series. Each cover has a little bit of bonus info about the cover. For anyone who may be confused THIS IS NOT THE COMICS, ONLY THE COVERS OF ISSUES 1 - 50.

For The Art Enthusiast As Opposed To The Casual Fan--An In-Depth Look At Process

"The Walking Dead" is an undeniable classic in zombie lore, graphic novels, and great storytelling. Trust me, I'm a huge fan! And, on its fifth anniversary, we get this handsome collection of art. If you've purchased any of the hard cover editions of "The Walking Dead," "The Covers" is the same approximate size and assembles the cover illustrations from the first 50 issues of the series. It also has some bonus covers from various collections and reprints. The layout of this volume has the covers, full sized and in color, on the left page while the right page has supplemental information. The new material provides context from creator Robert Kirkman and artist insight from Tony Moore and Charles Adlard. There are rough sketches, sample layouts, art discussions and some anecdotal material. It's all very pretty and well put together.

But is it necessary? That's a qualified maybe. I own all of "The Walking Dead" and I guess I just didn't feel the need for this additional piece. If you are an aspiring artist, however, or are fascinated by art theory--this may indeed be something you'd find compelling. It is most successful at discussing the process of illustration. There is an audience for "The Covers," it is just a specialized one. If you're a completist, "The Covers" would also make a lovely coffee table book if that appeals to you--but I need another coffee table book like I need a hole in my head. In no way would I discourage a fan from buying "The Covers"--just realize that this one's all about the art! KGHarris, 10/10.
