About the Author
Dr. Valery Kleshev spent 10 years as a member of the USSR National Rowing team, winning a gold medal at the junior World Championships in 1975, a silver Olympic medal in 1980, and a bronze at the World Championships in 1982. In 2005 Valery took a position at the English Institute of Sport, and helped the British rowing team to win two gold and four other medals at the 2008 Olympic Games. Since 2009, Valery has run his own company, BioRow Ltd, carrying out research and development in rowing biomechanics. His clients won four gold and seven other medals at the 2012 Olympics.

How do categories of the aesthetic and evidential shape the history of collecting photographs? What has been the work of photographs in museums? What does an understanding of photograph collections add to our understanding of collections history more broadly? What are the methodological demands of research on photograph collections?

The case studies cover a wide range of museums and collection types, from art galleries to maritime museums, national collections to local history museums, and international perspectives including Cuba, France, Germany, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK. Together they offer a fascinating insight into both the history of collections and collecting, and into the practices and poetics of archives across a range of disciplines, including the history of science, museum studies, archaeology and anthropology.

Love it!

There are tons of great ideas in this book. A lot of them you can do right at home for no cost. As soon as I showed it to my kids my 9-year old son took sticky notes and marked the pages of everything he wanted to try. He marked 3/4 of the book! We are having a great time trying the activities! I also like that there is room on each page for you to jot down your thoughts about each activity. :)

So fun to do! A great way to make memories with your family. You can always go back and redo all the challenges. My favorites are "Letter Scavenger Hunt" and "Backyard Treasure Hunt". Fun for the whole family and kids of all ages. I also recommend the original Try Something New. (Its more for couples)

A hardspun ball of facts and fiction that may knock you down

On the cover IW tells us that the book has taken over 15 years and at least one trip to sweden to accomplish. You just simply have to admire the ambition to tell us such a complete story. In this ambition he takes on the herritage of older storytelling (and also educating) authors. The plot is simple; we follow the nobelwinners of one year from the time they are chosen too the time they leave Stockholm with their checks. In the time inbetwen we get an indepth analysis of the minds and psychological functions of people who are alcoholics, suffer from low self esteem and so om. Also in his pick of personalities IW demonstrates that the goal is to educate the readers, this time moraly. the book is well woth reading both for its facts on the nobel prize, the gossip around the nobel prize and its analysis of different aspects of the meaning of life and how to do it.

It was a fascinating and thrilling experience to read this book. Wallace certainly had great insights and a wealth of knowledge. My impression after reading this book is that Nobel prize winners are not saints not super human beings but just like you and me with hopes fears and human problems but somehow, by luck, their achievements had turned out to be unique and acclaimed.

This may be the very best of Irving Wallace's wonderful novels! The story is just a timely one, whether you read it when it first came out or just now. He develops the characters so beautifully, I could picture every single one of them. And as the story develops, there is surprise after surprise. Just a fabulous book and one I wholeheartedly recommend.

A textbook on the firm.

This book is probably the first textbook on economics of organization. Since published in 1992, it has been widely used in classes. The main framework of the book lies in the conception of the firm as a system of incentive/coordination to allocate efficiently resources. So this book is an extension of neoclassical approach to the area of organization, though such concepts like bounded rationality and transaction cost are incorporated deeply into the architecture of the book. Unlike usual textbooks, this book has the overarching coherence with theoretical depth over various subjects like centralized/decentralized organization, moral hazard, rent, ownership, human resource management, investment, corporate governance. Such consistency is possible for its theoretical position: neoclassical approach. In that stance, the actor is motivated in its rational calculation, in other word incentive, although it¡¯s bounded in terms of information. How to organize such actor into an organization is the problem of coordination in the theory of the firm. Such an approach was widely adopted in the 1980s. But these days, resources/capabilities approach and evolutionary economics dominate the discourse on the firm. Capabilities, resources, dynamic capabilities, organizational learning, routine, tacit knowledge, knowledge creation, those are buzzwords to date. If you are to be specialized in the theory of the firm, this book should be read. But if not, I recommend Besanko, Dranove, and Shanley¡¯s ¡®Economics of Strategy¡¯. It takes trendy approach and that, it explains each subject with live examples from business world.

Great book; the worst print quality you'll ever see

The book delivered by Amazon.com looks like a photocopied book, not a printed one. Paper quality is the worst. It's totally incompatible with the US$ 140 price.

It should be out-of-print or something and then Prentice-Hall found it cheaper to photocopy and bind it, rather then issuing a new edition. Amazon.com should let customers know this in advance.

The book content is great as the other reviewers have said, but I'm about to see a book with worse print quality than the one Amazon sent me.

I wish I have bought a used book, printed 15 years ago, for US$ 40.

Interesting and still relevant text on business economics

Paul Milgrom and John Roberts are big name professors at Stanford. You know they are big name because on the cover of the book their names are bigger than the title. That's sort of the definition, right?

Seriously, this is a very fine book. Even though it is a dozen years old and much has happened in the theories of organization, compensation, and incentives, the information in this book remains valuable. The book has 17 chapters organized in 7 parts. They are:

1)Does Organization Matter

2)Coordination: Markets and Management

3)Motivation: Contracts, Information, and Incentives

4)Efficient Incentives: Contracts and Ownership

5)Employment: Contracts, Compensation, and Careers

6)Finance: Investments, Capital Structure, and Corporate Control

7)The Design and Dynamics of Organization

I think that presenting these business topics as topics in economics is very helpful in developing the right habits of thinking. While the book is not heavy in mathematics, it does present the relevant formulas and does not shy away from serious discussions of economics. In this way it is a very practical and applied text.

While this book has been and should continue to be used in classes, I hope it gets a larger audience in the general readership interested in business and economics. It really is that interesting and well written.
