Some good models for the advanded folder

Instructions are clear and well printed, with very few mistakes which do not distract from the overall quality of the book and the models. Full colour photos of actual completed models are included for additional guidance as well as sizing ratio to give an idea of how large/small the final model will be compared to the initial paper size. All but one of the models (Airbus 320) are folded from a single piece of square paper. I found a couple of the models looked a bit odd (and it wasn't just me as the book's photos show them, such as the autogyros, equally unusual), and very difficult to hold their form due to many layers of paper, but there are some excellent models here (notably, Messershmitt Bf109).

Certain 'standard' steps such as forming wheels at the end of landing gear struts are omitted and this makes the book aimed at the more advanced/experienced folder.

There are some great techniques here, to produce the multiple sets of propellers for example, that you can use in your own designs. Overall, a very good addition to the origami book catalogue. Recommended.

I've been doing origami for many years, and found I had problems with some of the models in this book because the transitions weren't as clear as I needed them. I suspect those with more advanced skills could make sens of them, but I wasn't happy with a few of the models because I didn't feel the diagrams were clear enough.

Clinical look at students

This book is used in my Masters of Higher Education Student Affairs program. The book is has insightful outlook about today's college students; however, its very dry and clinical to read. This book was used in conjunction with "Generation on a Tightrope" by Diane R. Dean which reads more as a story. I recommend using both of these books to grasp a better overview of college students.

Marat Yusim is now establishing a school of acting and directing in New York City which will serve as the ongoing gateway for American students to study at Moscow’s famed conservatories.

"Saved by Angels" is Bruce Van Natta's story of God's intervention his life through a visitation of angels when a logging truck he was repairing fell off its jack and pinned him under the front axle. I was captivated by Bruce's amazing and miraculous testimony; and deeply moved by God's call on his life when I read his book in 2008. Bruce continues to demonstrate how the Lord uses ordinary people to carry out his purposes in everyday occurrences.

This expanded edition of "Saved by Angels" includes study questions for reflection and personal application. One amazing book!

This is one of the best Christian books I have read so far. As a fellow sinner, I can relate to the author not only about reverting to my evil self repeatedly but also about the overwhelming love of the LORD as He takes me back again and again despite my sinful nature.

As my favorite excerpt from the book states:

"It still puzzles me how GOD can be so faithful to us when we are not always faithful to Him."

Stefan Boeykens

Stefan Boeykens is an architect-engineer from Leuven, Belgium. After graduation, he was involved in architectural practice for about 4 years, before returning in 2007 to KU Leuven for his PhD on the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the design process. He worked on a variety of research and education projects, ranging from CAD and BIM, to metadata for architectural archives and cost simulations. His main research interests are BIM 3D modeling, and visualization, digital historical reconstruction, parametric design, programming, and interoperability between a variety of software tools, with a special focus on open BIM.

He is quite literate with software in general, with extensive expertise on ArchiCAD, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhinoceros, Excel, Solibri, Processing, CINEMA 4D, Ableton Live, Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Artlantis, and Unity. He likes cross-platform approaches, even more since switching to OS X. Hard disks are always too small for him.

Stefan Boeykens is currently employed by the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering Sciences at KU Leuven, Belgium. As a teacher, he is responsible for the Architectural Computing courses and teaches students how to use AutoCAD, SketchUp, ArchiCAD, Solibri, CINEMA 4D, Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, and Unity.

He is the author of the CAD-3D.blogspot.com blog, which discusses CAD, 3D, and BIM, with a particular interest in free and educational software for architects and interoperability.

As stefkeB, he records everything at home, using Ableton Live mainly. Some of his music can be heard on Soundcloud and Bandcamp. All his compositions are available under a Creative Commons license (CC-BY-NC-SA), by choice.

Unity for architectural visualization is his first actual book, but he has written countless software tutorials; recorded an extensive set of video-tutorials, freely available on Youtube; and has written several academic publications that have been presented on conferences worldwide.

Good read, but more informational for a beginner than a more advanced reader.

Many years ago I was doing mechanical drafts for automotive parts. Even back then we had to deal with how to best visualize
items we would draft in Auto-Cad in 3d and had to somehow make these parts "pretty" by some form of digital visualization.
Obviously, that was way before more modern visualization software like Unity and we had to cut corners everywhere we go,
often using multiple programs transferring data back and forth till we had something that would look good enough to present
to our customers.

Since I been using Unity professionally for 5 years now as a programmer for video games I came across this title and I was
curious how non game professionals can use Unity for their visualization needs and how software has evolved since my days
in mechanical drafting.

I basically entered the book with a clear mind and without the purpose that this book needed to teach my something that I
will need. Since I have a pretty good graps of Unity from my professional work, I read the whole book on my train commute
without having a copy of Unity at my disposal to see if I could follow the authors topics very easily. Except for a few pages
where I had to read a sentence or a small chapter more than once, I have to say that the book is very well written and easy
to follow for anything the author explains about the Unity engine. Anyone that has not used the Unity engine before should
be able to pick it up for the purpose of this book in no time. The reader is set up with a good base knowledge to explore
Unity in all its glory further if so desired.

The author spends a good amount of in the early to mid chapters of the book to get the reader to understand theories and concepts
of what it takes to get architectural assets prepared to use in Unity. Multiple ways and software are explored, explained and
thoroughly brought across. Specific technical terms are discussed and elaborated on as needed. While these concepts are
certainly necessary to understand, it made me wonder a little bit if those are concepts that should already be knowledge for a
reader of a book with such a specific title or not. I guess as with all technical books, the author wants to reach all levels
of readers. For more advanced readers that are already familiar with these concepts these parts might not be very helpful.

The chapters in which the author goes into hands on use of Unity itself are again set up very easy to follow and structured. A
common theme throughout the whole book I would like to mention. As a professional programmer, although I might be a little biased
here, I thought that the chapter on scripting should have been a little bit more elaborated on. My complain here comes from the
title of the book itself. When I first read the title I was in the opinion, that this book would teach more about the actual use
of Unity and scripting for a very specific purpose. Not that the book is lacking important code or has flaws in the code that is
used. In my opionion the book just has a too short chapter explaining the power of writing code for this particular purpose.

Overall, to me the book follows a pattern of many technical books that I have read over the years. Often their titles are a bit
misleading and not quite what I was looking for. Now I said above, that I read the book solely for the purpose of "personal
entertainment", however, I did set a goal before I started reading of what I would look for if I would read this book from a
teaching perspective. As I mentioned before, all of the chapters are well written, easy to understand and cover specific parts
of the whole picture, so this goal was certainly met. The goals that weren't met by the book were the lack of more coding examples
as well as the long theoretical chapters on how to prepare assets. These parts were a little bit too basic for me and I rather
would have seen them to be a little bit shorter and focus more on using Unity as the title would suggest.

Therefore I rated the book as 4 stars from a perspective of a more advanced user. There isn't really much the book will help you
if you already know the concepts of preparing assets for use in a visualization software and you have a basic idea of how to write
simple code. If you are a someone who is an absolut beginner in asset creation and the basics of writing code, then this book
is for you and deserves a 5-star rating. As a beginner, this book will take you literally take you by the hand and walks you
through the necessary steps to have something to show. Where you take it from there is completely your choice, but you will
certainly have what you need to get on your journey.

The author goes over the differences of traditional CAD software like AutoCad and 3D software like Unity 3D. In the first chapter he explains the workflow to get designs from AutoCad to Unity 3D and also explains common problems and pitfalls that architects could find when working with these programs.

On the next chapters the author takes a hands on approach and the reader can begin creating a scene exported from a CAD software and imported into Unity 3D. With every chapter you can see you scene coming to life by adding lights, 3D navigation, 3D models, optimization of your scene and even you will learn a bit of scripting.

The book is perfect for any architect and visualization artist who enjoys an hands on approach to learning a new tool. While the author goes over theory during the first chapter the rest of the book will have you working with your project and at the end you will enjoy your work of art. I found it an interesting read and easy to get into.

It is a must have for any reference collection.

Accurate and written in a way all can understand. How many of us have enough time to study out in depth the entirety of the known western religions? Well as a father of three that works a full time job and work for a ministry, I do not. Pastor Rappaport has systematized religions that never have been broken down in this way before into a format that most Christians are familiar with. Not only does he break down religions such as Islam, Roman Catholicism, Judaism, and Jehovah Witnesses; but he gives us a side by side comparison to how their beliefs compare to Christianity.

A Christian will make the most of this book, but anyone that believes anything will find this book extremely useful and valuable. It is a must have for any reference collection.

Easy to read and divided into memorable parts for easy reference. Andrew breaks down some of the world's major cults and reveals their theology according to their own sources and authority. He reveals what they all have in common and contrasts them with the truth of genuine Christianity. If you are a beginner in understanding world religions, or well-versed and would like to have an easy reference to keep around, without hesitation, I recommend this for your library.
