***Spoilers Included to Explain Review***A bit Rushed but had Potential.

*****Read at your own risk, SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW*****

Addison and Stephen meet in high school but Addison rejected him and caused him misery. Stephen goes on to become successful. He and Addison reconnect and the truth of her actions are revealed. Only, Stephen is living a lie, hiding who he really is from her. He knows her but she doesn't know him as they date. They fall for each other when the real reason behind his high school shame is told.

He leaves Addison and moves on. During a moment of weakness they reconnect. They are forever enter twinned.

Stephen decides to move on with his new life without Addison.

More drama occurs but Addison and Stephen end up with a HEA story.

The drama at the end is rushed with the HEA. Stephen was a jerk near the end and Addison had no back bone and forgave him too quickly in my eyes. He was weeks away from marriage. He treated her like a Jezebel and acted like it was nothing.

Pros:
Drama
Angst
Decent storytelling
Complete story, as far as the plot and conclusion. No sequel!!!

Cons:
This is my first book with this author, but the style needs a bit of work. It was first person, but lacked the flow at times seasoned authors have.
Misuse of 'then and than.' Makes me cringe.
Stephen treated Addison horribly despite her actions toward him when they were teenagers.
The conclusion and HEA was too rushed. He was weeks away and then a day away from marrying another woman that he also loved, but she got back with him in a week. Huh???
Addison had no backbone.

A Story With Something For Everyone

This story has many of the elements that I love in a romance:

•First-person POV: I love when the hero and heroine offer their perspective as the narrative unfolds.

•Flashbacks: This story begins in the present, takes a trip down memory lane, and then fast-forwards ahead to the present.

•Secrets: One that is really the basis of this narrative. A secret that is so explosive, it could irreparably tear things apart forever.
•Dirty dog ex: I love to hate a good ain’t ish ex.

•Plot Twists: You know the kind that has shaped the way you’ve felt about a person forever, but when the truth comes out, the game completely changes, but when the truth actually comes out…? Yeah, this has it…

•Good hot lovin: Ms. Piaget can write a love scene! They weren’t gratuitous and had me writhing in my seat…

•Unpredictability: I pride myself on figuring out how a plot will unfold, but this one literally had me guessing all the way to the end.

More Like an Obsession

This is the third book from this writer that I've read, the first book I thought was good, the second book, not so much, by the third book I expected her writing to have been much improved, it was in some ways and wasn't in others. There are parts of this book that are bogged down with trivial details, grammar issues and missing words. What was interesting about this book, were the portrayal of the main characters angst, insecurities and their tendency to deceive each other and themselves about their past behaviour. I salute the writer's honesty about Stephen deciding to marry someone else & showing how he had no issues with having sex with his future bride eventhough he was in love with someone else, there was no pretension on his part of him being sexually attracted to his fiance, this was very realistic in my view.

I purchased this product in good condition here on Amazon and was able to sell it in good condition on Ebay. It was not new, but because I needed it for a class it was functional, it had all pages and every page was legible.

Biochemistry text that leans more on the chemistry side...

This book was adopted by my university for a senior level / first year graduate level biochemistry course. It is well written and contains no messy jargon. Literally all of the text is useful information. In addition, it is concise.

My chief complaints about the book are: 1) the illustrations require substantial updating to be compared to what is presently available even in inferior texts. 2) it lacks clinical/biological correlations and focuses instead on the quantitative nature of biochemistry (acid base calculations etc) Clinical correlations are certainly essential to applying biochemistry concepts. If this book had either or both of these two items, it would have earned 5 stars from me!

Instead, I recommend the following texts:

- Biochemistry: outstanding illustrations and concept coverage.

- Marks' Basic Medical Biochemistry: A Clinical Approach: outstanding clinical correlations with concise concept coverage and good illustrations (although not in full color)

- Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry, Fourth Edition: outstanding text and illustrations!

From the last flying boats, attempts to improve then replace the Shackleton and ultimately the Nimrod itself, Gibson provides a fascinating insight into the aircraft, weapons and sensors developed to counter the Soviet submarine threat.

For years the Air Staff and the ministries argued over what type should replace the Shackleton, including variants of the Vulcan, the Britannia, VC10 and Trident, before one man strode into the MoD building in 1964, settling the argument with what became Nimrod.

About the Author
In 1978 his interest in aircraft took Chris Gibson into the Royal Observer Corps where he represented his group, area and country in aircraft recognition competitions between 1980 and 1991. On the standing down of the ROC in 1991, Chris began researching historical aviation and has written several books on un-built projects, particularly guided weapons.

Great background to England's way of coming up with both aircraft and the systems for doing anti-submarine and general maritime patrol work since WWII. And we thought the F-35 program was a bad, long drawn out process. The Brits were way ahead of us!

Another fascinating delve into aviation history with Chris Gibson

Nimrod's Genesis is the latest volume in Chris Gibson's series of books for Crecy on RAF projects and weapons. Following on from Vulcan's Hammer (Bombers) and Battle Flight (Fighters), Chris has decided to tackle the less glamorous, less well known subject of maritime patrol.

The book is beautifully put together, the drawings, photos and artwork all first class and reproduced perfectly and the excessive typos of Battle Flight are banished. The text is well written and edited, impeccably researched and reads well. There are loads of projects depicted I was previously unaware of, and the coverage of the various designs for the successive requirements is very complete. Chris covers the weapons and sensors used in maritime patrol and a chapter explaining the submarine threat that the Soviet Navy posed. If you have any interest in the subject of maritime patrol aircraft, I am sure this book will be a delight. I liked the HS.1011/HS.1023 (impractical but cool), and the Maritime Patrol Vulcan was unexpected.

In summary then, a great reference on RAF Maritime Patrol requirements and development, well worth buying. Crecy continue to impress with their releases, and Chris Gibson does a very good job of making a coherent narrative from the source material, not just a "stamp collection" of projects.

Sticking the Maritime Patrol Vulcan on the cover was a great idea - pity there were no MPA TSR.2 projects :)

In conclusion - buy it, its very interesting and deserves to do well.

They do this very well. That they are printed in China is more a statement of the cost of similar endeavors in the West than it is of the derived quality in the East.

Unlike historical fiction for things that never were, this category of aviation literature has a very valid substrate: the furtherance of the aeronautical art. Aviation blind alleys can actually lead to hardware. Hence aircraft vaporware is worthy of study and reportage.

The issue with such books is how far to push the defining boundaries. Nimrod's Genesis may be just on the edge. Subtitled “RAF Maritime Patrol Projects and Weapons since 1945,” this is 222 pages of unbridled decadence for the minutiae loving aviation buff. Yes, it is an acquired taste, and on the surface may not appeal to yours. It certainly didn't mine. But author Chris Gibson knows how to reel you in.

The opening chapter isn't even about aircraft. It concisely sets the stage for subsequent chapters by painting a picture of the “enemy,” the Soviet/Russian Navy, and in particular its submarines. This he follows with a chapter on sensors, how they work, the tactics required for each, and weapons used to counter targets. All these are very well illustrated. Explanatory graphics are clear, concise, and informative. The subsequent chapters about the aircraft begin with the end of World War II and flying boat projects and continue through short- and medium-range maritime reconnaissance, long-range land planes, NATO and the so-called Trinity three-in-one project, and continue chronologically to today.

Gibson's writing is focused, there are no distracting side trips into unrelated matters. There is a flow to his work that is easy for the reader to follow and one often leaves a chapter with the thought that “I didn't know that,” or “That makes sense.”

My only criticism with this book—and it applies to the entire genre—is that they tease you with such interesting drawings and sketches and leave you wanting because they are too small to be of real value other than to illustrate a shape.

I would not have gambled on the subject. It is too far removed from my comfort zone. But I would have lost by not picking it up.

The potential was there...

I was excited when I first picked this book up over the weekend. I love origin stories, and was interested how this one would tie in with the various continuities.

What I ended up reading was only a few steps away from being a jumbled mess.

Here are my main complaints:
1.) There is no sense of when events occur in relation to each other, other than that events in later chapters occur after those that occur in earlier chapters (for the most part). It was annoying trying to figure out if eons had passed or just days (or if events are occurring at the same time).
2.) The number of references to different continuities can get annoying. "Project Generation One"? Really? It felt like all the continuities got mixed up in a stew, but not everything mixed together properly.
3.) Did X transformer really just get thrown in for a random 1 paragraph mention? Why? How does this advance the plot? Does it reveal any new character motivations? Or is it just fanboy service?
4.) Alpha Trion's role as Yoda seemed ill-conceived. If he really was one of the 13 primes, shouldn't he have known all about Omega Supreme and how to activate him? Why didn't he reveal all about the Matrix, Vector Sigma, et al to Optimus in order to assist in the war? He seems eternally shackled to a caste that he was forced into by Sentinel Prime (who was the best character by far... actual character development!!! Shocker!).
5.) There's little indication after the early part of the book which character is being focused on. The points of view seem to jump around quite a bit, to the point where you're like "Megatron sounds like a good guy!" "Oh, wait, maybe that's Optimus..."

If the book were interspersed with vignettes of Sentinel Prime's thoughts, showing his development from a stagnant, cowardly leader, through his imprisonment and torture, out to his realization and subsequent redemption and death... that would be a much-stronger book.

I wanted to like this book. I really did. I just wish it was better-edited.

An Amazing Read!

First off, I've read all of the reviews on this book and do agree that there are a few errors and mishaps, but besides those, this book is on par with the Transformers comics I've read. It's a pleasant mixture of Megatron Origin with Orion Pax as a co-star. Now, this novel tells the origins of the War for Cybertron games and very loosely to the new Transformers Prime TV series on The Hub.

It doesn't really tie into the origins of Transformers G1-G2, Beast Wars and Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise, the Unicron Trilogy, and Transformers Animated. It does mention some characters from those shows, but it's still a different continuity all together. It does touch upon the AllSpark being shot into deep space like in Bayformers.

I didn't find Transformers Exodus to be a huge rough draft as someone claimed, but the minor errors don't hurt the plot that much.

If you want a gripping, exciting origin story on Optimus and Megatron this book is for you.

This is a joke, right?

I'll start with the positives about this book:

1. It was not written by Alan Dean Foster.
2. It was not written by Simon Furman.
3. There are NO humans at all in this book. (Yes, Hasbro, it's true: we want *robots* in our robot stories, fancy that!)

That's....uhhhh, about it.

Problems with this book, in random order--I am keeping anything potentially spoilery to within the first 50 or so pages:

1. Editing is non-existent. The prose was flabby and there's no real sense of conflict or scene. Scenes will 'happen', set off with hard-hiatuses, but will have no conflict or resolution in them. Things are repeatedly restated, taking up pagespace and time that might have better gone to setting, characterization and plot development.

2. Pacing is s-l-o-w. It's a bit over 250 pages but it seems to last forever (not helped, of course, by the flabby prose).

3. A lot of the characterization makes no sense. Alpha Trion is some spooky dude who keeps the entire history of Cybertron. We're told he can't read the future clearly, only glimpses. Yet he's...regularly befuddled by actions that have already happened--that should, technically, be in his little magic book. Orion's emotional shifts are laughably volatile--he's suspicious, but then he's chumming it up. And in a 'canon' that says (*several times*) that new mechs sort of wash up by the Well, why does Megatron keep calling Orion 'brother'? What does that even mean in this? (Worldbuilding fail!) Megatron, who is allegedly uneducated, is a rhetorical genius with an extensive vocabulary. Orion is a lowly clerk who gets away with internal sabotage without even getting punished by his boss, much less having, oh, like an internal qualm? And for those who love Optimus? Yeah, one of his big psychological turning point moments is that he wants to go to an amusement park but can't. The angst! The pathos!! Wait. This is the guy who becomes Optimus Prime?

(And don't even get me started on the forced cameos like Barricade, Blackout, Cliffjumper, etc.)

4. What canon is this? It directly contradicts movieverse, though it involves elements of IDW's Megatron Origin. One of my friends suggests it's a prequel for the upcoming cartoon, another says it's background for the recently released video game, but then admits it has nothing to do with the plot of the game other than the notion of 'Dark Energon'. So...is this a microcontinuity? It seems to bill itself as game-canon. Is it it's own thing? Why can't I tell? (If this is a harbinger of the quality of the upcoming cartoon? Count me *out*.)

5. It...contradicts itself at many points. I'll give you just one example.

Page 78. "Not even Starscream, who had spent much of his scientific career in the labs....". Okay, Starscream = scientist, right?

Then let's go to page 158. "See what?" Starscream asked. Neither Starscream nor Megatron were scientists."

Wait, what?

The real killer is that there are some really interesting concepts that could have been very cool if handled...better. The author clearly has no grasp, and certainly no love of the beloved Transformers characters, and it shows in every tedious page.

Look, I'm a long time fan of Transformers--I was one of the original Generation 1 fans, back 26 years ago. I've stood by this franchise through a lot. But this book is turning me into one of those fans who will insist that this is not 'my' canon. This is like...some sort of tolerance test by Hasbro to see how much they can get away with or something. Either that or this is some Thanatos-drive cry for attention from the franchise.

I've been led to believe that Hasbro's pretty involved and controlling of their franchise. Yet they let the sloppy writing, the bad characterization, the internal inconsistencies go?

In short? If you want to read some good Transformers fiction, and I *never* thought I'd say this, but you'd be better off looking at fanfiction than this hack drivel. I want my money back. No, heck with that: I want my Transformers back.

About the Author
Reginald G. Golledge, Ph.D., is Professor of Geography at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His interests include spatial cognition, the acquisition and use of spatial knowledge across the life-span, cognitive mapping, individual decision-making, household activity patterns, and gender issues in spatial cognition. Legally blind, some of his current research includes: comparison of spatial abilities of blind and sighted persons; development of a Personal Guidance System (PGS) for blind travelers; disposable tactual strip maps for blind travelers; evaluation of auditory/tactual information systems as travel planning aids; and travel needs of the non-driving disabled.

Robert J. Stimson, Ph.D., is Professor of Urban Studies at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. He is also a Director of the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute and responsible for the operation of its Queensland office. Educated in geography at the University of New England and later taking his doctorate at the Flinders University of South Australia, Stimson is recognised as one of the leading urban researchers in Australia. He has published widely in social, economic and behavioral aspects of urban development in Australia, and more recently has worked on aspects of the internationalization of the Australian space economy and the growth of mega city regions in the Pacific Rim region. Stimson has longstanding multidisciplinary interests including the application of survey research methods in the investigation of spatial behaviour and the role of institutions in public policy and urban development and planning. His previous appointments include Dean of the Faculty of Management at the University of Canberra, Director of the Australian Institute of Urban Studies, and as a geographer in the School of Social Sciences at the Flinders University, South Australia, where he was also Director of the Centre for Applied Social and Survey Research.
