Exactly what I was looking for!

I've bought a ton of kindle ebooks on futures and trading. I'm new to trading, so I was looking for the happy medium between simplicity and effectiveness. A few books were ok, but they were hard to understand without serious trading knowledge....a few were over simplified and too good to be true. I love this book, because it is a simple, but really effective "system" to trading the emini S&P500 without using confusing indicators and charts.

I have been paper trading for a while now. I've used other methods, and would end up on the losing end. I tried Patricks method, and consistently hit winning trades, either by going long or short, depending on what his method says to do. If you are new to trading, get this book for sure. If you are a pro, get this book because you can add another powerful method to your bag of tricks. A++ Patrick, and thank you!!

Kindle charts a problem

Great book and the author deserves to be supported by better technology from Kindle.
I'm at the point of having to reject Kindle for any books containing photos or charts.

Interesting and Simple Strategy

Good book and very interesting use of heikin ashi. I never had good luck with all the indicators so this was nice to read. I am going to program this into NinjaTrader and run some backtests over a large sample size to see how it fares over the long term. I will update this review if the results are bad. Otherwise I will be too busy on my new yacht to bother with simple Amazon reviews.

The one thing that I will give the author credit for is actually putting a strategy that is easy to replicate in this book. I have read a lot of trading books that were very vague. There are even some trading books that do not have a chart in them! Luckily this book does a good job explaining the strategy.

About the Author
Christian Emery is a Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Plymouth, UK. He was previously a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the London School of Economics. He is the author of several articles and book chapters on US foreign policy and US-Iranian relations and has written for a variety of mainstream media outlets. He is currently working on a collaborative research project which examines Iranian national role conceptions.

This is an excellent analysis of America's policies toward Iran during the 1978-79 Iranian Revolution. Using primary sources, like documents and interviews, Dr. Emery really seems to grasp the true dynamics of US policy during and after the revolution. More importantly, he delves deep into important historical debates, particularly the mystery surrounding an American effort to provide the Bazargan government with intelligence on Iraq just prior to the Iranian hostage crisis. For those who are interested in the origins of America's policies toward Iran, this book is a must read.

Joshua M. Bernstein's first book, Brewed Awakening, was published by Sterling Epicure in 2011. Josh is a beer journalist and critic who has written for New York, Saveur, Details, Time Out New York, Draft, Forbes Traveler, New York Times, and Gourmet.com, where he was the beer columnist. He is a contributing editor to the drinks magazine Imbibe, where he writes feature articles on craft beer. As a beer expert, he's been featured on NPR's Marketplace and Beer Sessions Radio. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Engaging and informative. My new favorite beer book.

I read Joshua's other book, Brewed Awakening, and so Amazon recently recommended this book to me. This is a hefty hardcover and the magazine-style layout is eye-catching -- there's a mix of candid photos, behind-the-scenes peeks, and product images, which are really well done. His writing style is casual yet informative, as if you were chatting with a beer-savvy friend.

The book is essentially laid out in classes, which explore different styles of beers such as lagers, wheat beers, Belgians, IPAs, and sours. The chapters examine the brewing aspects for each beer style, historical background, sub-classes of beer, and facts, facts, facts. I love history, so it's nice to get a thorough explanation of the origins of the Bavarian Purity Law and also of obscure beer styles. There are tasting recommendations for each sub-class of beer. However, living in the Midwest, a lot of the particular beers listed are not available to me here. The author was kind enough to provide alternate recommendations for just that reason.

The final chapter goes into cellaring beer and pairing beer with food (before this, my alcohol-pairing knowledge was pretty much limited to pairing white wine with fish and IPAs with spicy dishes). There are some solid guidelines to follow here, and I'm excited to try some out with friends. As with his previous book, this intriguing tome will help guide me in my travels, so that I'll know where to go and what to try. I can't wait to check out some of the gastropubs he mentions!

I am definitely happy with this book and it will be on my coffee table for the foreseeable future.

like sitting with a beer-savvy friend at the bar

Imagine going out with a friend who knows a lot - really quite a lot - about beer and sitting at the bar becomes this great, long conversation about beer and how it is made, and how each style obtains characteristic flavors. This conversation makes you thirsty for more and amazingly, there's a book to read that sounds just like your beer-savvy friend. We all have that friend in Josh Bernstein, who conducts home-brew hours and tastings all around NYC. Though I live far away, in Milwaukee, WI, I really enjoyed the guided tour from Josh, in print. What a treat! Well worth sharing with all your beer-loving friends.
